Montblanc StarWalker, inspired by the spirit of space exploration travelled to orbit with Inspiration4 before being auctioned in support of St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
As part of Inspiration4, the first all-civilian mission to orbit, Montblanc equipped each of the four crew members with customised StarWalker Writing Instruments and stationery. These carefully chosen items were part of the crew’s journey into space, before being auctioned as part of the mission’s aim to raise funds for and promote the life-saving work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The StarWalker collection expresses the wonder of being part of one of humankind’s most mysterious and powerful adventures: space exploration. The black precious resin of the writing instrument recalls the dark vast expanse of space, while the translucent dome beneath the emblem evokes the earth rising above the lunar horizon as seen from the moon, a reminder to appreciate our planet. The polished platinum-coated cap and barrel represents the astronaut.
Named Inspiration4 in recognition of the diverse, four-person crew’s mission to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and send a humanitarian message of possibility, the multi-day journey to low-Earth orbit represents a new era for human spaceflight and exploration. The mission was the brainchild of Jared Isaacman, a 38-year-old entrepreneur and accomplished pilot who commanded the mission.
The customised Montblanc StarWalker writing instruments and stationery were part of a variety of iconic and culturally significant mission payload items donated to St. Jude. The auction, which has already raised more than US$237 million to help end childhood cancer, runs through November, with different items being available at various points during the overall auction.
