Typically Montblanc, which has a proud history of innovation, the Montblanc Bespoke Nib harnesses technical progress to further enhance the ancestral act of putting pen to paper. Montblanc is now able to analyse, with extreme accuracy, individual handwriting in order to define the one nib that will ideally suit a person’s writing style. The Montblanc Bespoke Nib can then be created by Montblancʼs master craftsmen as a one-of-a-kind commission that not only reveals the person’s handwriting at its most elegant, but also intensifies the unique pleasure of the glide of a nib over paper that can best be experienced with a fountain pen.
Customers wishing to have the key characteristics of their handwriting analysed can do so at Montblanc Headquarters in Hamburg, as well as in selected Montblanc boutiques worldwide, including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Tokyo, New York and Dubai. Using a specially developed “electropen”, the customer writes his or her signature and a short sample text, while a computer measures key parameters, including writing speed, pressure, pen rotation, swing range and inclination angle. These are interpreted by a Montblanc expert, who recommends the precise nib that corresponds to the customerʼs needs. Naturally, these may be covered by Montblancʼs extensive permanent range of nibs – the company offers an unparalleled choice of eight different sizes, from extra-fine to oblique double-broad, and even an oblique triple-broad for its iconic Meisterstück 149 fountain pen – but if the customer desires a fully customized nib to produce an especially thick or fine line, for example, or a nib for calligraphy, a Montblanc Bespoke Nib can be commissioned.
The Montblanc Bespoke Nib is exclusively crafted from solid gold by the highly skilled artisans of the Montblanc nib manufacture in Hamburg, who painstakingly grind it by hand so that it reflects the individual characteristics of a personʼs handwriting. Finally, each Montblanc Bespoke Nib can be further customized with an engraved inscription, such as “Handcrafted for …”, recording for all time the exceptional and utterly personal nature of the order.
